Priorslee Lake and The Flash

7.0°C > 8.0°C:  Early light rain; stayed cloudy throughout. Moderate SSW wind later. Very good visibility

Bird notes
- now 6 Great Crested Grebes with 4 birds acting as two pairs
- most Black-headed Gulls arrived and stayed for some reason
- almost all the 74 Wood Pigeons that flew over went E. These may been in the >400 birds seen put up from Ward’s Rough to the NE later
- checked the Magpie roost this morning: 46 is fewer than I have recorded in previous years. I have logged over 80 birds some recent winters
- huge number of Jackdaws today

Bird totals

Birds noted flying over or flying near the lake
- 14 Canada Geese (14 outbound)
- 1 Cormorant again
- 72 Black-headed Gulls
- 5 Lesser Black-backed Gulls
- 1 Stock Dove yet again
- 74 Wood Pigeons
- c.1120 Jackdaws!!
- c.45 Rooks
- 3 Pied Wagtails
- 1 Siskin again

Birds recorded leaving roosts around the lake
- 46 Magpies
- 3 Reed Buntings only

The counts from the lake area:
- 1 Mute Swan still
- 6 (5♂) Mallard
- 1 Grey Heron
- 6 Great Crested Grebes
- 10 Moorhens
- 29 Coots
- 122 Black-headed Gulls only

The lamp poles contained a White-legged Snake Millipede (Tachypodoiulus niger)

The Mute Swan was being very cooperative this morning, preening to show its BTO ring number .Z8529.

- just about the same as yesterday: two Pochard and a few Tufted Duck seem to have left
and
- another Dotted Border moth on a different lamp post
- a Grey Squirrel again
