Priorslee Lake
Location

Afternoon Update: 2:30pm

Caspian Gull (sub-adult)

(Allan Gaunt)

Morning Report: 6:13 – 08:59

Telford sunrise: 07:11

10.5°C > 11.0°C. Low overcast and misty. Light S breeze. Mostly poor visibility

Not much visible in the mist and low cloud this morning

(134th visit of the year)

Notes
- low count of Mallard, but other(?) birds seen flying out and in before dawn
- another pair of Gadwall seemed to have showed up
- more Black-headed Gulls in from the Ricoh area / W with at least 250 arriving before birds started to move back and subsequent arrivals were as likely returning birds as new arrivals. No large gulls seem
- all but 1 of the Jackdaws in scattered group of 52 birds – all that could be seen in the mist
- c.200 Starlings seen low over likely came from the reeds in the NE area as none was seen leaving the NW area today. Much later another small party over
- Cetti’s Warbler again very vocal early but then shut up completely
- two Song Thrushes in song – one vigorously for a while
- very few passing Redwings: at least 3 more Redwings in the trees around the lake. There were no birds in their traditional roost area at 06:30
- 25 Greenfinches at least seen leaving a roost today
- at least 18 Goldfinches
and
- a / the same November Moth-type on the same lamp, though a different place
- another moth on the same lamp – my first Mottled Umber of the season
- found a few more flowers still around this mild Autumn: a single head of Meadowsweet; a few brambles in flower; and some convolvulus

Counts of birds flying over the lake (in addition to those on / around lake)
- 53 Jackdaws
- 27 Starlings (1 group)
- 5 Redwings
- 1 Meadow Pipit
- 2 Pied Wagtails
- 2 Siskins
- 1 Redpoll

Birds seen leaving roosts around the lake
- >10 Magpies
- c.200 Starlings (1 group)
- >25 Greenfinches

The counts from the lake area
All counts had to be done ‘in parts’ and are therefore possible under- / over-lapping is possible
- 2 Mute Swans
- 2 Canada Geese
- 10 (6♂) Gadwall again
- 8 (4♂) Mallard (see notes)
- 1 (0♂) Shoveler still
- 5 (3♂) Pochard
- 73 (36♂) Tufted Ducks
- 2 Grey Herons
- 1 Little Grebe
- 11 Great Crested Grebes
- 25 Moorhens
- 214 Coots
- >250 Black-headed Gulls

A murky November day at the W end

Some colour and leaves left.

A Mottled Umber moth: a quick edit because a bright white area of bird-dropping on the lamp was most distracting on the original.
