The Flash: 09:00 – 09:25
0°C > 3°C: Fine and clear after frost. Light NW wind. Good visibility
Sunrise: 08:21 GMT again
As early as I could with Mr. Arriva offering a Sunday service which somewhat limited the time available
(1st visit of the year)
A little ice
Notes from here
Nothing too much to get excited about
- most geese missing, presumed feeding in the fields
- good number of Goosanders
- poor number of gulls as seems to be the norm these days
- 4 Rooks over was welcome: I can struggle to log these here
Birds flying over here
- 5 Lesser Black-backed Gull
- 11 Wood Pigeons
- 4 Rooks
The counts from the water
- 2 Mute Swans
- 3 Canada Geese
- 1 all white feral goose
- 34 (23?) Mallard for 3rd count
- 23 (18?) Tufted Ducks
- 22 (3?) Goosanders
- 2 Grey Herons
- 1 Great Crested Grebe

- 13 Coots again
- 62 Black-headed Gulls
Priorslee Lake: 09:35 – 10:55
(1st visit of the year)
A hint of ice around the edges
A few notable records to start the year
- the over flying drake Goosander was a surprise at the somewhat later time
- an adult Common Gull flew over – just not quick-enough to get a photo
- a Green Woodpecker calling from the old Celestica site
- Willow Tit seen: thought I might struggle to find this lone bird this year. Was singing as well as calling today
Other notes from today
- now 8 Great Crested Grebes
- still very low numbers of gulls especially Black-headed Gulls
