(103rd visit of the year)
A curtailed visit ahead of a day-trip to the Wirral. This likely limited the number of warblers logged as many birds sing only intermittently now breeding is in full swing. Also it is usualy for hirundine etc., numbers to build after 07:30 so I saw rather few.
Bird notes:
- The juvenile Coots seen were again the two well-grown birds from brood #1.
- Just three Lesser Black-backed Gulls were over the Ricoh area early but apparently moved off. All the others noted were birds flying W.
- Still an adult male Pied Wagtail with two juveniles on the dam. No sign of a female - sitting on a second clutch?
Overhead:
- 10 Canada Geese: two duos and sextet outbound
- 2 Greylag Geese: duo outbound
- 3 (2♂) Mallard
- 2 (1♂) Tufted Duck
- 14 Wood Pigeons
- 2 Herring Gulls: immatures
- 13 Lesser Black-backed Gulls: one first year noted, otherwise all(?) (near) adults
- 8 Cormorants: three singles, a duo and a trio
- 57 Jackdaws
- 20 Rooks
Hirundines etc., noted:
- 12 Swifts
- 2 Barn Swallows
Warblers noted (the number in brackets is singing birds):
- 12 (12) Chiffchaffs
- 8 (8) Reed Warblers
- 10 (10) Blackcaps
- 4 (4) Garden Warblers once again
- 3 (3) Common Whitethroats again
Count from the lake area
