Priorslee Balancing Lake:
(239th visit of the year)

Bird notes:
- some Mute Swans may have been seen leaving the last two mornings but there were even more present this morning: 25 adults and 3 first years.
- a frustrating glimpse of a tight group of c.20 fast-flying ducks emerging from the mist and almost instantly flying behind trees and away to the West at 07:05. From the glimpse I had they were too large for e.g. Tufted Duck: they seemed too bulky for Goosanders. Beyond that I cannot say.
- the Black-headed Gulls arrived in three tranches of c.350, c.250 and then c.50. Thereafter they were too mobile to tell whether there were any further arrivals/
- perhaps the most unusual sighting of the morning was a female Common Kestrel flying East.

The Flash:
(241st visit of the year)

I was told about a video posted on Facebook of yesterday's rescue of the Mute Swan cygnet. I assume it was taken away to recuperate as I did not see it today. It is likely that disturbance by the rescue boat resulted in the Shoveler and many of the Tufted Duck flying off. I was therefore rather surprised to find a trio of Common Teal (two drakes) [but not the Little Grebe] alongside the island.

Other bird notes:
- only the putative pair of Great Crested Grebes was noted.

- 4 Jackdaws

Priorslee Balancing Lake:
(237th visit of the year)

Bird notes:
- five small geese were seen flying South to the West. Too distant to hear calls or see any plumage details. Seemed too small for Greylags. Could they have been Pink-footed Geese? I will never know!
- some of the Mute Swans were flying around and a trio eventually departed. Yesterday I noted two adult depart leaving 19 adults. There were 21 first thing today: perhaps they came back.
- most of the Wood Pigeon flocks were heading South. However one group of c.95 flew East and another of c.140 flew West.
- all the Black-headed Gulls swooped in from the south-west in one large group that I estimated to contain c.750 birds. Exactly why and what they do at the lake is unclear as most stay less than ten minutes before departing in various directions. At least some do have bathe: far from all though.
- the only large gull that came in early was a Herring Gull. A scatter came in after 08:30.

- 79 Starlings together
- 5 Fieldfare: together

- 1 Lesser Redpoll
- 1 Siskin

- 4 Starlings: two singles and a duo
- 4 Redwings
- 2 Reed Buntings
