Priorslee Lake: 06:35 – 09:45
The Flash: 09:50 – 10:30
10°C > 12°C: Very low cloud / mist. Light SSE wind. Poor / moderate visibility
Sunrise: 07:36 BST
Priorslee Lake: 06:35 – 09:45
(125th visit of the year)
Bird notes:
- the cygnets were given another flying lesson this morning. Two of them achieved lift-off and flew most of the length of the lake c.3 feet over the water. Not managed a turn at the end yet. The third almost managed lift-off but kept ‘one foot on the bottom’ so as to speak
- the juvenile Great Crested Grebe still begging and being fed even though almost full-size now
Bird totals
Birds noted flying over or flying near the lake
***badly affected by the low cloud and poor visibility
- 11 Wood Pigeons
- 11 Jackdaws
- 2 Starlings
- 2 Pied Wagtails
- 1 Goldfinch
Warblers noted:
- 2 Chiffchaffs remain
The counts from the lake area
***best effort in poor visibility and low light
- 2 + 3 (1 brood) Mute Swans
- 5 (3♂) Gadwall
- no Mallards
- 62 (>14♂) Tufted Ducks
- 1 Grey Heron
- 1 Little Grebe
- 3 + 1 (1 brood) Great Crested Grebes
- 10 Moorhens
- 125 Coots
- c.160 Black-headed Gulls
And other notes
- my log today consisted of
- 4 Autumnal-type moths (Epirrita sp.) all on the same lamp
- 1 unidentified fly sp. on a lamp pre-dawn
- 1 bumble bee sp. seen in flight
Not so much being fed as having a tussle over breakfast. I guess all part of the adult Great Crested Grebe teaching junior how to manipulate fish to avoid any spines. A Coot looking on with interest.
That’s the way – head first.

- new fungus in squirrel alley

None
The counts from the water

The fungus from two weeks ago now looks a nasty slimy mess. However ...
Another crop of new fruiting bodies has appeared.
Seems rather unlikely but here are some Hazel catkins. Can Spring be far away? Probably!
