This afternoon while feeding the swans and three cygnets, my partner and I noticed that one of the cygnets had something stuck to its bill.
As the the cygnets got closer, we realised it was fishing line. The cygnet was having trouble trying to free itself as the line was wrapped around its bottom bill, the cygnet was constantly ducking its head forward into the water (but of course it needed to pull it off - away from itself).
Other than getting into the water myself and or annoying the protective parents, I decided to use a long thin branch and try to hook the wire off as the cygnet returned its head to the surface.
After nearly an hour of coaxing the cygnets to come as close as possible with food and attempting to free the young swan, we eventually removed the line from the cygnet and was able to go home knowing they were okay.
