Priorslee Lake: 06:10 – 09:00
(51st visit of the year)
Bird notes from today
- another Woodcock seen flying to roost: must be my best year for this species even though I guess it is the same one or two birds involved
- most Black-headed Gulls flew straight through W to E. 19 was the maximum count on the water
- Rooks started passing at 06:21 and all but 5 Jackdaws and 1 Rook had gone through by 06:32

- >900 Jackdaws

Birds recorded leaving roosts around the lake

Other things
- nothing on the lamp poles and nothing else of note
The rather hazy sunrise.
A distant(!) Green Woodpecker. It was yaffling away even though the absence of red in the black area under the bill tells us this is a female.
A rather annoying foreground twig rather spoiling the view: a Song Thrush from a different angle. Only some of the variety of warm brown tones are due to dappled sunlight – many of the subtle differences are real.
On this view we see again the warmer tone on the forehead and crown and the contrast between the uppertail and the rump.
In the gloom of the Wesley Brook we can just make out some dark marks on the throat of this Grey Wagtail as it begins to moult in to breeding plumage.
